Course description

Scope of Survey Architecture Course is an introduction to the reading and intentional and operative description of the urban environment and architectural artifacts. The main objective of the course is provide methods and tools for the development of a cognitive, analytical and synthetic framework for a correct representation of architecture.

In this perspective, the survey represents the conjunction between reality and design; it is through the discretizations made in the survey phases , which translates the reality of space into its graphic transcription.

Training course involves the acquisition of knowledge of direct and indirect methods and instruments, and integration possibilities of technologies capable of returning to the various scales of detail, multiple aspects ranging from urban configuration to historical stratigraphy, to dimensional data, geometric and material, to the definition of decorative apparatus until the definition of perceptual and environmental aspects.

Articulation of lessons

The course will be divided into theoretical lessons and practical exercises, organized in relation to the various theoretical, methodological, technical and operational issues.

Main topics covered:

- general aspects of the survey

- Theoretical bases of detection

- survey themes

- methods and procedures for direct and indirect survey

Consistently with the objectives outlined and due to the nature of the discipline, the course is configured as a "place" of experimentation and verification through a practical application and graphic representation of architecture related to the assigned theme of the year.

The final exam consists in an individual oral exam on the topics discussed in the course and the presentation of the exercises carried out during the year, and in the group presentation of the tables written on the theme of the year, as an application experience for Survey and Representation of Architecture.
